| Ians Underground
Life
Ian seems like a fairly ordinary boy your students
will agree that his bicycle, dog and baseball cap are standard
fare for an 11 year-old. But they'll be astounded to see his
house, or rather... his cave. In Coober Pedy, a barren opal
mining town in the middle of a desert, there are no trees, little
water, and temperatures that can reach 120 during the day
and drop to below freezing at night. All good reasons for Ian
to love his cave-house; with its TV, and steady temperature
of 68 degrees. This photo-journey trransports students to an
extraordinary environment with as many cultural and geographical
differences (luxury caves with indoor swimming pools) as startling
similarities (you have to vacume your cave!).
